August 31, 2010

Volunteer Nonprofit Service Association, a local, all-volunteer nonprofit corporation, needs your donations of gently used books, paperbacks, videos, CDs, DVDs, puzzles, books on tape or CD, and any other book-related items for the 55th Annual Used Book Sale scheduled for February 12 & 13, 2011. VNSA is conducting a summer book drive to help overcome lagging book donations.

Tax deductible donations of books can be made at VNSA book collection boxes located in shopping areas around the Valley. Home or business pickups can be arranged by calling VNSA at 602-265-6805. More information, including specific drop box locations, is available at the VNSA website: www.vnsabooksale.org.

The 2010 VNSA Used Book Sale offered more than 500,000 books and book-related items for sale and attracted more than 15,000 customers. The process of collecting this many items begins anew each year, and the 100% volunteer membership of VNSA works diligently, collecting and organizing used books that have been donated by individuals, businesses, and groups in the Valley.

The support of the community is greatly appreciated. The proceeds of the book sale remain in Maricopa County, benefitting Valley nonprofit agencies that serve children and families in need. From the proceeds of the 2010 Book Sale, approximately $300,000 is being donated to Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation, Literacy Volunteers of Maricopa County, and Toby House, Inc. Since 1987, VNSA has contributed over $5.1 million to community agencies and has returned more than $6 million to the community since the first sale in 1957.
