The Grand Canyon Music Festival

The Grand Canyon Music Festival presents its 27th season, from August 27, 2010 to 

September 12, 2010, with weekend concerts at the Shrine of the Ages, South Rim, Grand 

Canyon National Park. The Festival also presents the tenth season of its Native American 

Composer Apprentice Project (NACAP), with music education programs at Navajo and 

Hopi Reservation schools, and the third season of School of Rock for students at Grand 

Canyon Unified Schools. 

 

Founded in 1983, the Grand Canyon Music Festival brings world-renowned artists to 

Arizona for performances, outreach, and education programs in rural and underserved 

Arizona communities, at affordable admission prices. The annual three-week series of 

concerts held at the Shrine of the Ages, South Rim, Grand Canyon National Park 

emphasizes the broad diversity of chamber music in celebration of the environment of 

this majestic World Heritage Site.

 

Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children (age 6 and up) and students,

The festival schedule includes the following performances:

Friday and Saturday, August 27 and 28 at Shrine of the Ages (7:30 p.m.)

Join pianist Emanuele Arciuli, violinist Susanna Gilmore, cellist Astrid Schween, and composer Raven Chacon as they explore both timeless masterpieces and new creations from across Europe and America.

Sunday, August 29, Canyon Plaza Resort, Tusayan, (3:00 p.m.)

Bring the family and enjoy a free jam session with the Bonfiglio Group’s sophisticated palate of jazz, blues, folk, and classical styles.

Thursday, September 2, Shrine of the Ages (7:30 p.m.)

Jazz violinist Joe Deninzon and guitarist Steve Benson bring the swing treatment to music by Green Day, Soundgarden, Steely Dan, and a little Chopin and Paganini.

Friday and Saturday, September 3 and 4, Shrine of the Ages (7:30 p.m.)

Join the Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo and flutist Clare Hoffman for a captivating evening of classical guitar.

Friday and Saturday, September 10 and 11, Shrine of the Ages (7:30 p.m.)

Native American flutist Robert Mirabal and Hawaiian steel guitar virtuoso Jeff Petersen join ETHEL's Truckstop in a melding of styles for a night of fresh, new American music.

Sunday, September 12, Grand Canyon Community Building (5:00 p.m.)

Come hear the newest sounds from emerging Navajo and Hopi composers as they present their work as part of the Native American Composer Apprentice Project with ETHEL and Raven Chacon.
