![]() | My husband is a community hero! Adam has volunteered at a domestic violence shelter every single week for the past couple of years. He supports the staff in watching the school-aged children while their mothers are in domestic violence education classes and support group. On any given Thursday Adam can be found reading them books, playing board games, or simply talking to the kids about their day at school. Not only do they have a ton of fun with him, but he has proven to be a trustworthy, consistent male figure in their lives. He takes time to listen and connect with the children. He remembers what they share with him and he follows up. The mothers in turn see that there are still men in out there that really care about them and their children. Adam gives hope. It is fun to see the transformations not only in the children, but also with Adam. He is very open with friends, family and colleagues about domestic violence and is always educating others on the things he's learned. I would have never imagined how strong his commitment would be when I brought him with me that first Thursday night. Adam is a hero to many! Given the nature of the work that is done with the children at the shelter, I am unable to provide a photo of Adam with the kids. I attached a photo of Adam riding his horse, however, who is one of the kid's favorite things to talk about with him. Signed, |
