I am writing today to nominate my hero as a "my heart" hero. His name is Steven Sappenfield III. He will be turning 7 years old this month. Steven was born with a congenital heart defect known as Hypo Plastic Left Heart Syndrome as well as Dextrocardia, Trachia Malaysia and Transposition of the Main Arteries. Little Steven has undergone 3 open heart surgeries in his short lifetime and he will be having what will hopefully be his last open heart surgery this summer. Steven is my hero because he brings joy and light and love and laughter to our lives and all those around us each and every day. Steven knows that he is sick but he refuses to allow that to hold him back no matter what. He is the strongest, happiest, bravest person I have ever known. He is a constant reminder that things could be worse and we should all be grateful and happy no matter what. Steven has every right in the world to not be but he is. Thank you for reminding me every single day how lucky we are to have you in our lives. We love you very much.
